What To Expect As a New Patient
-
What is an oral appliance? How does it work? Do you only wear it at night?
An oral appliance is a device worn over the teeth while you sleep. It slightly moves your lower jaw down and forward, which allows you to breathe properly and get the rest you deserve!
-
How do I know the appliance will work for me?
We do a brief exam before moving forward and will recommend the treatment that will be the most successful for you. Oral appliance therapy has been proven to be equally effective at reducing cardiac risk in severe apnea patients.
-
Do I need a sleep study before coming to see you?
No, you do not. We will guide your testing. Most often, testing is done in one night, in the comfort of your own home under the supervision of a board certified sleep physician that is contracted with our office.
-
Do I need a referral to come see you?
No, you do not need a referral to come in. You can make an appointment directly with us. We will communicate with other members of your healthcare team- general dentist, primary physician and sleep physician.
-
Is it covered by insurance?
Yes, it is covered by medical insurance (not dental) and we are in-network medical providers with a number of insurances like Traditional Medicare, VA Community care, Cigna. We are not in-network with Advantage plans.
-
How much does it cost for a first visit?
It goes through your health insurance so it depends on your particular plan/policy, but typically it’s the cost of your specialist co-pay.

Selecting a Treatment Plan and Finding Success
Your treatment plan may include lifestyle changes, medications, or medical devices, depending on the specific issue being treated.
We know it’s not always easy to make lifestyle changes, take new medications, or start using new treatment devices—that’s why our team is here to offer our expertise, provide you with clear instructions, and answer your questions.
Most sleep disorders require lifetime treatment – that’s why we are dedicated to charting your progress and serving as long-term partners in your care.
Check your insurance.
We are in-network with a number of medical insurances. Traditional Medicare patients with a supplemental typically have very little to no out of pocket with oral appliance treatment. We are not in-network with Advantage plans.
